Lightweight Lotus Elise

11 September 2008 No Comment

The current incarnation of the Lotus Elise model is pretty light already tipping the scales below 2000 lbs. So what do you do if you want to go faster? You can always go upgrade to the Exige for better performance and a fixed roof. But another alternative is to improve your power to weight ratio with the emphasis on the latter.

Enter Jimmy’s dry carbon fiber Elise.

This Elise which is in Hong Kong got treated to some high fiber diet. All the panels were replaced with dry carbon fiber parts. Glossy CF is the typical but going “DRY” CF, now that’s money. I still have my doubts that this is a an authentic dry carbon fiber as this look can also be done by “Vinyl wrapped” technique. But seeing all the shifts in the weave makes me believe that it possibly could be the real deal. But maybe it it was wrapped with real carbon fiber which also are available, regardless I’m still on the fence with this one.

Word is that this ride should be in the August issue of Car & Driver Hong Kong so anyone with more info, please chime in.

The car does looks nice though and has that “murdered out” look with that matte finish exterior and blacked out lamps and wheels. Props to the owner.
