Comic Con 2009
My wife and I woke up early Saturday morning to brave the traffic and the crowd at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con International.
Spent about close to 2 hours of driving when we finally hit the Convention Center. It was madness outside. Saturday is probably the busiest out of all the other days, what were we thinking?
Even saw this row of Nissan CUBE promoting the HEROES TV Series.
After another half an hour looking for parking we got in and picked up our badges. Even saw Gene Simmons of the band KISS -sorry no pics but we got this inconspicuous dude in a hood LOL.
When I first started out in this industry, you can actually walk through the aisles with no problem but these days, its elbow to elbow. The addition of Video game companies and Hollywood stuff brought in tons of crowd.
I used to love watching Attack of the Show in G4 until my cable company decided to cut it out from my lineup…boooo! Oh this is their booth. Saw Olivia Mon earlier but when I took this shot, I only caught Kevin (see red arrow LOL).
While weaving through the crowd I got held up by Fred Flintstones…yabba dabba dooo! He’s so big in person!
I was scheduled to do a comic book signing between 4-5PM so with a bit more time to spare, we looked for some toys!!
Back when I was about 6 years old living in the Phillippines, there were 2 tv shows that I watched religiously – Voltes V and Mazinger Z. This is what got me into drawing.
It was cool seeing these different Mazinger Z toys there.. especially this carbon fiber one!
And who can forget Voltron!! Not as OG as the other two but still cool.

This mecha-looking robot looks freaking awesome. Not enough room to shoot the whole thing. It was so crowded.
Also saw the new Camaro – Transformer edition.
The Bat Pod, looks even better in person.
Then we came across this Stitch all done up in various designs.
Marvel got this impressive IRON MAN display. Can’t wait for Part 2.
Walked around some more and saw couple of cool statues..
and some confusing statues as well..
Lego and Disney collaborated and produced these super cool Lego Toy Story characters!!
My wife and i decided to split up so she can look around for herself and I can talk as long as I want to some friends who I haven’t seen in ages.
Went through the Artist Alley and saw my friend Leinil Yu. Comic Con actually flew this guy all the way from the Phil., all expense paid, hotel accomodations and all as their special guest. He’s probably the biggest artist in Marvel at the moment.

Then I finalllllly met the inker who has the biggest influence in my career – SCOTT WILLIAMS!!! There’s a funny story which I’ll post later.
Here are other personalities we saw at the show..
President of Marvel Comics, Joe Quesada.
Tyrese – not sure what he’s doing there but I’m assuming promoting some books for Image Comics.
Leonard Nimoy – Mr. Spock from Star Trek. Trekkies were going nuts.
Lindsay Lohan.. LOL j/k ok that’s mean. I take it back.
But this statue is crazy, I think I read somewhere it’s $3000 for the bronze finished and $15,000 for the pure bronze version.. what recession?
Comic Con will not be Comic Con without all the attendees dressed up in their favorite characters..
Group of DC Comics Superheroes.
But out of the sea of costumes interwoven between the aisles , this is my favorite. Bumble Bee from Transformers! It didn’t transform and he’s a lil short but wow.
My wife and I met up and it’s time to do the signing at DC Comics. I was there to meet the fans of the Superman books and Supergirl Series.
I got my own placard .. I feel so special haha
Even got my mug displayed at the monitors. Dunno why I looked buzzed LOL
Also, just want to apologize to those couple of fans who I did some sketches for. LOL I’m just an inker sorry!
The hour went by so fast. Superman was even in line but didn’t make the cut, as indicated by the red arrow. too funny!
And that was that, went home, picked us up couple of LEE’s Sandwiches and took it easy the rest of the evening.

hahah lindsay lohan. looks like she gained some weight!

Oh man the Voltes V and Mazinger Z bring back memories. How come there’s no pics of the female robot from Mazinger Z that had her missles shoot from an interesting place? LOL!
Oh and Tyrese was most likely there to promote his comic book, Mayhem. It’s through Image Comics.
