BMW For the WIN!!!

16 August 2009 No Comment

After making a valiant effort for 6 races in this years ALMS, Team Rahal Letterman’s BMW M3 finally took the #1 and #2 spot in the GT2 class held in Road America .

Both M3s qualified 1st and 2nd with the #90 car taking the pole position after all the misfortunes it had during the series. Joey Hand and Bill Auberlain never let off their top spot against the new Corvettes and that all conquering Flying Lizard Porsches. The other #92 BMW M3 driven by Muller and Milner also maintained it’s compusure finishing right behind their team mates. They’ve been very consistent and certainly a force in the whole series.

Credit goes to the whole crew for getting both cars dialed in the crowded track.

Cool shot right here below. The #90 car on top of the #92 just like in the podium.

Once the green flags drops, they took advantage of their top spots to dominate the early half of the race. They did got a lucky bump in the standings when the first all caution yellow flag went up as the overall leader from the protoptypes went in the pits with the BMW teams sandwiched between it and another prototype racecar. The BMW M3s received a 9/10 lap lead against the other GT2 cars due to this rule. I’m not fluent with the ALMS regualtions and such but hey sounds good to me, LOL.

Was their first ever win a pure luck? There is a hint of it but you can’t deny that both BMW M3s were the fastest in the class all through out the weekend. Congrats to the whole team!

I won’t be surprised if the officials dumps another restrictors to both cars. But one car they should do this to is the Flaying Lizard Prosche. Did any of you saw that pass they made on the new corvettes in the straight away? They pulled and passed them as if the V8s were only firing 1/2 the cylinders?!

Anyway, next race is in Mosport in 2 weeks!!
