27″ iMacs!!!

20 October 2009 8 Comments

Woke up today and read through my morning sites and blogs. Just think of it as reading a newspaper with a nice cup of coffee as part of a morning ritual. Lots of interesting automotive and non-automotive news as usual. One of which is Apple announcing the latest and greatest iMac.

No more 24″ option but it is now offered in 21″ and 27″. My eye is on the later.

21″ on the left and 27″ on the right.

the wireless keyboard and the multi-touch mouse.

For the full info, watch the video:

Since November of 2007, all my automotive illustrations and digital renderings were done in my 24″ 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM (max). I had the old 17″ G4 iMac and when it was time to update my desktop, the 24″ was a no brainer. The biggest monitor I’ve ever worked with was the 21″ so 24″ I thought might be too big. After using it for a while, I started to see that the size is just fine. You can fit two browser windows side by side or have a browser on one side and your art on the other side. It’s like having 2 monitors in one. But the more I used it for automotive digital work, the more I feel that the 1920×1200 screen can use just a bit more real state. So with the release of the 27″ iMac today, I’m so tempted to upgrade.

27″ iMac features:

-LED-backlit display 16:9 , 2560-by-1440 pixel display
-1TB of hardrive
-16GB of Ram (max),
-2.8GHz QUAD CORE Intel Core i7
-wireless super sleek super smart mouse and key board.

It does come with faster graphics but since I’m not a gamer, it’s no big deal. I thought maybe a Blu-Ray would be also available with it but I guess in due time. And obviously, a faster processor is right around the corner as well. Ahhh dunno what to do.

Should I wait?

Anyone wanna buy my 24″ iMac?!!

Maybe if you start including an Apple icon on those automotive illustrations they might sponsor you!

multi-touch mouse wtf??? that’s some madness right there. i’m a linux man myself, but this is a very nice computer ;) the notion of fitting all of the internal components into the monitor is a good idea, and they seem to pull it off better than anyone else out there! Sony has something similar in concept, but in practice it comes nowhere near Apple

Maybe an i7 PC or Mac Pro and a 27″ Dell or Samsung monitor would be better?

Argh… my wireless keyboard crapped out on me. Apparently it is a common problem. Have go to Apple and try to get a replacement.

You sure you don’t want the WACOM monitor which you draw directly on? It’s very nice…

I would love to own the 21UX, some of my buddies use it, but it’s expensive. Apple is rumored to come out with their own tablet so I’ll wait to see how that looks like. If it turns out that that the 21UX is better, then I’ll just save up for it.
