Season Finale -VIDEO UPDATE!
The final round of the ALMS went down yesterday at the Laguna Seca raceway aka Mazda Raceway in Monteray, CA. At 2.2 miles, this is one of my favorite tracks to race in (in Gran Turismo LOL) with its drastic elevation changes and that famous corkscrew at turn 8.
The class that I got my eye on is the GT2 class.
Out of the entire series, this final was the most exciting especially in the GT2 class. A lot of crashes, RISI Ferrari which was leading most of the time failed to finish due to mechanical failure and of course the drama between the Flying Lizard Porsche RSR and the Team Corvette C6R. I couldn’t believe what went down in the last laps. And the final lap was even crazier when the Porsche and the Corvette literally bumped each other for 1st place. The Flying Lizard Porsche crossed 1st with the Corvette crossing the finish line sideways all wrecked!! IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE.

UPDATE: Video of the last lap. This was after Corvette was penalized for an illegal pass so he went back to his 2nd spot but never stopped trying, even turning on his high beams to blind the Bergmeister in the Porsche. The video starts with the officials telling the Corvette to “LET THE #45 (Porsche) GO”.
The flying Lizard finishing 1st in their class with Bergmeister/Long at the helm.

In the second spot, Team Corvette proved that they are a genuine force to be reckon with showing up late in the season but finishing strong at every race.

The BMW team #92 finished in 6th place while the #90 had some mechanical issues and dropped out only after the 3rd lap.

The new Jaguar XKR racecar looked great but had some drivetrain issues and was only able to last 46 laps.

After 9 rounds, the overall standing looks like this:
GT2 Team Championship
1. Flying Lizard Motorsports
2. Risi Competizione
3. BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team
4. Farnbacher Loles Motorsports
5. Panoz Team PTG
6. Corvette Racing
7. Robertson Racing
8. Primetime Race Group
GT2 Automobile Manufacturer
1. Porsche
2. Ferrari
3. BMW
4. Panoz
5. Chevrolet
6. Ford
7. Dodge
A lot to look forward to for the next season and I’m still hoping for the best for the BMW team while keeping an eye on the Flying Lizards, RISI and the Corvettes. Finishing 3rd place overall isn’t bad at all considering that this is their first outing with the new racecar and the teams that beat them were a staple in the top spots.
Congrats Team RAHAL/LETTERMAN!
In the P1 class, the Acura chassis proved victorious as De Ferran/Pagenaud took the win beating the other Acura driven by Fernadez/Diaz by half a lap and the 3rd place Acura driven by Brabham/Sharp by four laps.

This race also marks the final race for Gil De Ferran racing in a new livery Acura

Such a beautiful looking racecar in white, a tribute to Jim Hall who also inspired him. What a great career. Congrats Gil!

Nah man, I wasn’t as luck as you. I was stuck at home in my drawing table and only watched it on Speed. I gotta make it out there some day.
