After many years of waiting, BMW have finally released the official images of the 2010 BMW 5 series (F10).

I personally find this latest 5 series model better than the E60. Better in terms of how easy it is on the eye. When the E60 came out, it was so revolutionary. The headlights were so far off from the E39 creating such a big gap in the design evolution of the series. Don’t get me wrong, I still feel that the E60 headlights were one of the highlights that made the E60 appealing but compared to this model, it falls short as the F10 goes beyond just a pretty headlight. The side panel looks a lot more interesting now vs the flat broing surface of the E60. The rear looks “beefy” which is great considering that these pictures are not even the M model.

I would like to see it in person and test drive the 550. I hope it drives as good as it looks.

And also after 6 renderings that I did of this model, I finally get to compare it to how close or how off I got with my speculations.

The very first time I took a crack at this model was back in January 2009. Here was how it looked as published in LLN.

Comparing it to the real F10, I’m very to happy to see how close I got from the shape of the headlights.

The bumper is dead on but it was due to the leaked picture which helped me.

The hood was off though so I did another one.

Here is how my 2nd version looked like in March 2009.

Although realizing that the hood was 100% accurate, I should have kept the shape of the headlights I did in version 1.

Then version 3 came out in October 2009.

Now this was probably the worst rendering I’ve done LOL. All the details were there but the proportions were way off.

So came the 4th version posted earlier this month

Overall, I’m very happy with all my renderings. I’ve gotten some details fairly close and some even dead on. It took a while to refine some of the details but the end, it proved to be another relatively accurate speculation.
