brave photographer

17 December 2009 2 Comments

I caught an article posted on Dailymail.co.uk via Autoblog.com regarding this British photographer bravely snapping pictures as an out of control funny car dragster bares down towards him.

Here’s a quote with some pictures from the article posted on Dailymail.co.uk.

Andy Willsheer kept snapping even as the 250mph car spun towards the crash barrier at Pomona Raceway in California.
Miraculously, the wrecked vehicle landed just feet away from the photographer, who escaped unharmed.

The high-powered machine, capable of going from 0-60 mph in under a second, skidded off the track after its right side wheels hit an oil slick.

Only the concrete barrier prevented Willsheer from being killed by stopping the car dead just three feet away from where he was standing.

‘The crowd were yelling out for him to get out of the way and he kept on taking pictures,’ said one eyewitness.

‘He really is lucky to be alive, but he must have taken some great photos.’

I actually had a pleasure of meeting Andy couple of years ago at one of the Cars & Coffee meet. He noticed my BMW E36 and had asked to see if I would be interested in getting it published in a europen BMW car magazine. My buddy Fred (founder of Strassentech) was there with his E46 M3 but since his car was not ready at the time, we just ended up setting the photoshoot for my car.

Andy had other cars he shot that day and for my car, he settled on an open parking spot as we were running out of light.

Here are some pictures I took of him shooting my car.

Andy seen here shooting my engine bay.

The brave Andy Wilsheer shooting from a 2-level step ladder.

Not as scary as shooting the funny car dragsters, haha.

I never got an copy of the magazine so I have no idea if the article was even published but it was an honor to meet such a brave photographer.

Here are couple of shots I took during the shoot with my crappy point and shoot.

I just relaized that these picures were taken before I got my one-of vented carbon fiber hood.

    A brave photographer indeed, wow.
On another note your car still makes me drool at it every time I see it, and still inspiring most e36 owners haha.
