Renderings – Year in Review
I’ve done plenty of automotive renderings this year, speculative and concept designs. Some of the speculative renderings were done in 2008 but the actual models revelead in 2009. Some turned out fairly close, some not so much. And some body kit concept designs, I can’t even post due to strict confidentiality agreement. But all were fun and challenging to create at the same time.
So for my last post for 2009, I thought it might be a good idea to do a year in review of it. I can’t post all of my rendering I’ve done this year but here are just some that stood out to me.
Doing speculative renderings is a little tricky as it requires a lot of research and looking at all and any available info, pics about the particular model. And I basically just fill in the blanks for those areas of the car that are covered or have not been revealed yet.
Typically a speculative rendering takes about couple of weeks to put together depending if the information gathered is enough. Sometime I will start a rendering and put it aside until more information surfaces. I do this for the accuracy of the rendering.
The longest time I’ve ever spent on any rendering so far is this.
AMG SLS rendering

I started this rendering summer of 2008. I worked on it off and on for many many months as more information, sketches and spy pics became available. By April 2009, I finally finished it and LeftLaneNews.com posted it. Five months after my rendering was posted, the official pics of the AMG SLS were leaked. This is how it looked like showing how close I’ve gotten.

To read more about it, click HERE.
But as close as the AMG SLS rendering was to the actual car, the most accurate rendering I’ve done to date is the 2010 BMW X6M.
My rendering as featured in LLN…

This rendering was done in Sept 2008 and was posted by LeftLaneNews.com in December 2008. And on April 2009, the images of the official BMW X6M were leaked. Here is the real deal.

A lot of the details I’ve done were just a lucky guess of how it might look like as there were hardly any information available on how this car will look by the time I’ve finished it. And for it to come very close to the real thing just makes the experience very satisfying. To read more about this, click HERE.
And here are some honorable mentions for their accuracy as well.
NASCAR Challenger

Reventon Roadster

2010 BMW 5 Series

I’ve done plenty more but we’re still waiting for the rest to be revealed so we can compare.
Here are some of them:
BMW F10 M5

Bentley Supersports Convertible

2011 VW Jetta MK6 posted in LeftLaneNews.com

Lexus IS-F Convertible posted in LeftLaneNews.com

The one rendering I’ve done that I regret the most was the Ferrari 458 Italia. The main reason I regret doing this rendering was because I’ve waited too long (and procrastinated) to post it. It was done but I just had to set the car in a nice background setting but I just sat on it and then to my surprise, Ferrari unveiled the official images of the 458 Italia!
Here’s my 458 Italia rendering that I regrettably sat on by the time the official images were released.

I gotten close but it doesn’t matter as it was posted after the official pics were posted. Time wasted. Sucks big time.
And here is the official picture of the 458 Italia:

Since I was so bummed out, I did a super quick rendering of the spider version of the 458 in the hopes to be not only the 1st 458 Spyder rendering but also not to miss out again just in case Ferrari revealed it before I can post mine.

Now this was another regret I had with this model because I had rushed it, I completely failed to remove the view of the roof through the windshield. FAIL! Such a stupid mistake… ahh, I’ll never rush any renderings again.
As far as body kit designs, I’ve submitted two widebody kit designs this year which are currently in production at this very moment. I’ve also done a livery design for a potential ALMS racecar. As I mentioned earlier, I cannot post it due to Non-Disclosure Agreement but all I can say is that one design that I’ve done have already been seen and leaked in the net by the manufacturer. So far the public response was favorable so I’m happy.
I’ve certainly learned a great deal from doing all these renderings and I hope that 2010 will continue to challenge me. I just hope I find the time.
Here is a sneak preview of the next rendering I have in the works..

I’m hoping to post this sometime in January if my schedule permits.
Cheers to all and have a great NEW YEAR everyone.
Thanks for all your support.

Which two body kits if you don’t mind me asking? Mansory Cyrus and Panamera perhaps? Keep up the great work Jon, cant wait to see the next rendering. Lamborghini Gallardo?

Stan, I’m not able to say which cars I created the body kit design for as it’s part of the non-disclosure agreement.
As for the next rendering, it’s not a gallardo
Happy New year!

One of the rendering have been released by the manufacturer but still waiting on the other. From what I’ve been told, they are currently building both cars and will most likely debut soon.

Nah didn’t do that. It would be cool to work with Federico from RD Sports though. I’ve met him in person couple of times but doubt he remembers me. He might remember my E36 though.
In any case, I will not be able to confirm or deny if you get which rendering was mine LOL. If ever I get clearance from my client, I’ll post it.
Incredible work Jon – Happy New Year, here’s to a healthy and prosperous 2010 for you and yours!

Ha, that next one is from an image of a car in a race bay isn’t it
I’m working on something with the same car too and recognised the light reflections…probably be complete by 2012!
