Superman: Secret Origin

29 December 2009 5 Comments

The reason I missed out on most car events, had turned down other projects, didn’t get to go on vacations, worked on weekends, and most importantly pay my bills on time and put food in the table is this. SUPERMAN : Secret Origin.

Superman: Secret Origin is a book that I’ve been working on for DC Comics. This is written by Geoff Johns, penciled by Gary Frank, inked by yours truly and colored by Brad Anderson. This team that I’m part of is just awesome. Each are all masters of their own craft and to work with a skilled guys like these pushes me to strive harder to produce higher quality of work.

We signed up to do a 6 issue mini-series. The first 3 issues are already out in the stores.

Here are the covers for issue #3.

And here is my favorite page for issue #3.
And here is the colored version courtesy of Brad Anderson.

This is the inked version.

Issue #3 came out over the Thanksgiving week and I’ve turned in the last pages of issue #4 over the Christmas week. Working through the holidays is tough but in this industry, you gotta do what you gotta do. I’m thankful for the opportunity always so I do not take any of it for granted.

Here are select few pages from Issue 1, 2 and 3.

Before I forget, I gotta give props to my editors – Matt Idelson and Wil Moss. These guys keep everything moving so we don’t miss deadlines amongst other things that makes this book a hot seller.

In addition to this book, I get to ink Supergirl over Jamal Igle’s pencils. Another great artist who is very consistent. Between Jamal’s pencils and Gary’s panecils, I barely have any extra time to do car renderings so budgeting my time and schedule is a must. I’m still working on that.

What is the difference in inking and penciling (correct words?)

The penciler draws the page in pencils and they gave that page to us where we then “ink” over their pencil lines so to give clarity and depth to the pencils when printed.
