RB26 powered E36

I was getting a bit worried that I couldn’t find any interesting tuned BMWs to post here but with the Varis Z4 post yesterday, I was in luck to come across another tuned bimmer.

DBM Engineering is a tuner from Netherlands. They started about 15 years ago tuning Rally cars. They also work on various cars from street cars to full blown racecars. The later is what I’m more interested in. They have a racecar they built which combined their specialties – BMWs and Skyline GTRs. May I present the DBM Engineering’s BMW GTR.

This widebody BMW E36 M3 was built strictly for the track. The widebody from what I can see is similar to those found on a lot of Hillclimb racecars which is are manufactured and produced by Flossman. The kit on DBM’s BMW GTR have been modified though so it’s look slightly custom to suit DBM’s need.

Instead of the S50 engine that came from the factory, DBM transplanted an engine (along with the rest of its drivetrain) commonly found on 1989-2002 R32, R33 and R34 Nissan Skyline GTRs – RB26DETT. The original S50 M3 engine is an inline 6 which is the same config as the RB26. the biggest difference between the two is that the RB26 came with twin turbos as the S50 was NA all the way. DBM used a couple of T517Z snails in addition to a host of performance parts from Greddy to modify the engine’s performance.

The car is rolling on a set of neon green TE37s. Hey, it’s a racecar so the rules of normal tuning for the streets need not apply.

The gigantic rear wing is very interesting to me. Typically they are either mounted to the trunk (or the chassis) but this set up shows how they are “blended in” with the trunk making a one piece unit.

Couple of large hoses coming from the NACA ducts on the roof of the E36 funnels air to keep things at ambient air temps. The very nice layout of the fuel pumps is a sign that this is a well engineered racecar.

Here is a teaser video from DBM..

And here’s a better video from RPMonline.nl with the owner of DMB Engineering sharing the details of their BMW GTR racecar.
