McLaren GTR Longtails

9 February 2010 9 Comments

The McLaren F1 GTR “LongTail” debut in 1997 with a heavily modified body work. The front end and rear end was extended for increased downforce. The car was detuned to 6.0l vs the previous 6.1l. But the total weight was also reduced down to only 2,006 lbs.

So with that, I once again applied this idea to the MP4-12C.

For reference, here is the MP4-12C “GTR” version in Test Car config. posted last week.

And here is the LONGTAIL version in Test Car form.

Exterior design differences
So based from my previous MP4-12C GTR rendering, I’ve extended the front end as well as the rear end. The wing was also mounted further back and received new end plates. The roof air intake was also enlarge just like the old F1 GTR Longtail. This version also features a set of canards, new set of hood and fender louvers and larger set of wheels for each livery.

I’ve chosen the four of my personal favorite liveries for the LongTail version.

Here they are.

Yellow Corn Livery

FINA Livery

LARK lLivery

Livery from Chassis #28R of Gulf Team Davidoff

As a bonus, here is a GT version.

Same as the longtail but no racing wing. McLaren produced these model for the F1 back in the days meant as a homologation special. They were only two that were ever made for production- chassis #054 and #058.

i was just wondering how the reflection on your render looks exactly the same as the reference foto
u definitely 3d modeled the car right?
so did u make a hdr of the environment?
    i’m too curious to know
    thanks

3D software was not used to model this but the rendering was done with Photoshop. I used the reference photo for all/most of the reflections and created the background from scratch.

These illustrations are incredible. I was not real crazy about the original front and rear design elements but with your ideas, I have a new found love for this car! I feel fairly certain we will be seeing future Mclarens with modifications to utilize your ideas. I would love to see your ideas in a rearview perspective.
