Super GT BMW Z4 no more

7 February 2010 2 Comments

One of the most colorful Super GT racecars I’ve seen is the #808 BMW Z4 from Studie GLAD Racing.

This is how the car looked back in the 2008 season.

Darker colors were used but eventually was changed with much lighter and brighter tones.

And this is how it looked for the 2009 season.

The BMW M Z4 features the BMW Motorsport widebody, same as the ones used in other major race series.

It is powered by the same V8 engine that powered the previous E39 M5 and Z8. But it was tuned down to only put out 300hp to comply with the GT300 regulations.

The teams major sponsor is GoodSmile Racing in which they partnered with Studie AG who was in charged of maintenance and up keep of the racecar. But the car is actually owned by Advance Step. Credit to my buddy Inomata-san for this info.

The car is currently stored at Studie showing its current livery.

One of the most significant feature of their livery is this anime character named Hatsune Miku.

There were different version of Hatsune Miku plastered on the doors and hood of the car through out their two year run.

Unfortunately, the car wasn’t as successful as I had hoped. Last year, they finished 20th out of 25 in overall points and did even worst their first time out.

So for 2010 season, GoodSmile Racing announced that they will not be using the Z4 any longer thus ending their partnership with Studie AG. They have teamed up with COX and will be entering the competition with a Porsche 996 RSR.

This is the official shot of GoodSmile Racing 996 RSR. The livery shown here is not final yet.

In spite of the new chassis, their signature anime character, Hatsune Miku, they used for their previous racecar will be retained. But they are updating her look which will be a racing version called “Racing Miku”.

This is how she looks.

No doubt I’ll miss the Studie GLAD Z4 but according to my friend who works at Studie AG, this is not the last we’ll see of the colorful racecar. They have their sights on the ring. Twent four hours of Nurburgring that is.

Goodluck to both.

That is awesome. Hope the change will give GSR a better chance at being able to really compete in the following year. I liked the Z4 but it was just never able to really compete in the races.
