918 Spyder UNPLUGGED!

2 March 2010 4 Comments

Porsche “shocked” (pun intended) everyone yesterday by unveiling another electric hybrid model – the mid-engine 918 Spyder. I won’t bore you with the details and I’m sure most of you guys have already read em anyways.

After the ooohs and the ahhhs quiet down, it turned into, what the hell is up with them wheels though?!.

Does it really need to look like that? Coz the 911 GT3 R Hybrid was able to pull of some 3-pc deep dish race wheels. Or maybe the electric drive system needed all that space in the wheel hub, I dunno.

In any case, I couldn’t stand it so I went ahead and “unplugged” it by putting some proper shoes to this Spyder hybrid.

Much better right? Now about that rocket launcher in the rear deck…

My prediction. This car will be one of the most “chopped” (photoshopped) car. Expect to see a gang load of them LOL.

More shots of the Porsche 918 Spyder Hyrbid Concept.

Couple of real life shots. There’s those electric-looking wheels again.

Check out this cool video.

Aren’t those electric wheels lexan wheels? In the video looks like you can see through those wheels. Maybe these wheels are lighter?

Oh look another sexy hybrid that’s not going to be available for the masses like you or myself. So that makes GM ev-1 & Volt, Tesla, Wrightspeed X-1, BYD, Nissan Leaf, Mini-E, Ford Escape-E, and now the Porche 918 which are produced for show and attention but never to be massed produced. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of waiting for cars to become electric again, why is this taking so long? Hasn’t someone solved the battery overheating issue yet?

Wish I could believe in change, but I just cant wait another 20+ years.
