GAIKING teaser

2 April 2010 4 Comments

Before there were robots like Transformers and even Voltron, there were the Super Robots.

Growing up in the Philippines, I remember anime being such a heavy influence in my life as an artist now. From Voltes V, Mazinger-Z, (remember Zayaka? LOL), Grendizer, Daimus, Gaiking, Getter Robo G, Brave Reideen, etc. etc.. These robots ruled and owned me.

Any of you youngins recognize these guys? Ahh, I feel old.

Now one of them will own me again. Daiku Maryu Gaiking – Gaiking for short.

A GAIKING film is being planned for 2012 release date by director Mathew Gratzner and artist Jules Urbach!!!!

Here’s a quote from the artist Jules in an article posted in Aintitcool.com

We are building the robots life size. Matt is one of the last great practical effects guys in the business who can pull this off. We will bring you to the set and give you first shot at seeing them. If you want, we can have you put out those first images of what the finished versions look like. The teaser we have now is CG for the robot. It is to give the fans a taste of the design we are going with, but it is not a true reveal given what we are going to be doing when we build the thing. The real deal is going to be mind blowing of course.

So with that, here is that CG teaser.

And some Screen caps..

I feel like a kid again!! I can’t wait.

Oh and the best part, a potential “Shogun Warriors” film is also planned as a sequel!. I’m dying!!

Pare it’s alright. I feel old as well since I know those cartoons. I think my cousin still has his Voltes V die-cast figure in storage still.
This is quite exciting to see. I guess that’s what happens when our generation becomes the directors/producers of films.
