NISMO RC headed for Le Mans

3 June 2011 One Comment

The NISMO RC (Racing Competition), a purpose built racecar based on the first all-electric production vehicle in the world – NISSAN LEAF, is headed to Le Mans 24 Hours for demonstration runs.

With the Nissan LEAF already scheduled to compete in Pikes Peak under the Production Class for EVs, this will be the first of the many series of guest star on-track appearances of the NISMO RC in the hopes to popularize the street version.

Some new (to me) pics of the NISMO RC rolling on a set of bronze Volk RE30.

The two demo runs are scheduled at 21:15 on Thursday, June 9th and another run to follow at 12:10 on Saturday, June 11th local time.

More pics of it but with the RAYS VR G2 wheels this time…

NISSAN LEAF™ NISMO RC Set for Demonstration Runs at Le Mans

YOKOHAMA, Japan (June 3, 2011) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. today announced that Nissan will demonstrate the NISSAN LEAF™ NISMO RC at LE MANS VERS LE FUTUR, a support event for the 79th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place June 11-12.

The NISSAN LEAF™ NISMO RC is a purpose-built racecar based on the Nissan LEAF, the first all-electric production vehicle in the world. The NISSAN LEAF™ NISMO RC, the first-ever zero emission racing spec production vehicle, was unveiled at the 2011 New York International Auto Show in April and garnered considerable consumer attention throughout the show.

Two demonstration runs by the NISSAN LEAF™ NISMO RC are scheduled: – the first at 21:15 on Thursday, June 9th and the second at 12:10 on Saturday, June 11th local time.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world’s most renowned endurance race and is held on the Circuit de la Sarthe, near the town of Le Mans, 200 kilometers west of Paris. It is considered the toughest endurance event in the world and for many car manufacturers, doing battle at Le Mans is considered a badge of honor.

This year Nissan/NISMO-powered LMP2 cars will participate in the race. Lucas Ordonez, winner of the first GT Academy, will drive the Signatech Nissan, one of the LMP2 cars.

If only they could make the electrical engines sound more like the pod race vehicles in Star wars.
